Family Swim

Family Swim is a wonderful activity funded by S.Au.S. It is free for “Friends of S.Au.S.” members and the entire family is welcome to participate. This 13-week program is offered twice a year. The first commencing in September, the second in January. The pool has a safe, bright, and comfortable atmosphere.
Only our members have access the pool during this hour. Families can swim without questions or judgement.

Autistic children are often excluded from other sports because there are too many elements to focus on. Being in the water can provide them with alone time where they do not have to anticipate a ball being passed to them or be responsible for the success of a team. Swimming provides an excellent opportunity for parallel play and allows interaction at a level that is comfortable for them.

For children on the autism spectrum, being in the water is very soothing and emphasizes gentle and repetitive motions. Water has a calming effect on the body and reduces enervating noises. Swimming also aids in the improvement of speech, brain development and works multiple areas of the brain. Swimming also reduces stress and increases mood-boosting chemicals in the brain.

What better way to spend Saturday evening? All you need to bring is your bathing cap (required). Three certified lifeguards are on site, but children must be accompanied by an adult in the pool.

You will be asked to show your Friends of S.Au.S. membership card upon arrival.
